Researchers “Test the Tests” to Help Combat the Spread of Covid-19
Mar 17, 2022 — Atlanta, GA
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, gaining access to accurate, timely testing has been a struggle for many Americans. To remedy this, a team of researchers from Georgia Tech, Emory University, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta are working together with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Food and Drug Administration to “test the tests” to ensure exiting tests are accurate and help accelerate the development of new ones.
The team, including Oliver Brand and Wilbur Lam from the Institute for Electronics and Nanotechnology (IEN) at Georgia Tech, were featured in a March 15th article published by The New York Times. The article, “Inside the High-Stakes Race to Test the Covid Tests,” covers the work they have been doing and how they are making an impact.
“The Atlanta team ‘has been absolutely heroic,'" said Bruce Tromberg, director of the NIH’s National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering.
